The rapid growth in global trade in commodities has contributed to significant reductions in hunger and poverty over the past three to four decades. Unfortunately, it has also led to poorly planned expansion of large-scale monocultures, biodiversity losses, greenhouse gas emissions and unfair arrangements for local communities.

Earthqualizer, as a pioneer in developing NDPE (No Deforestation, Peat, and Exploitation) Policy, has consistently emphasized responsibility and accountability for the on-the-ground impact of business operations. Earthqualizer remains committed to advancing sustainable practices in the palm oil industry, aiming to benefit both the environment and local communities.

On November 10, 2024, the Earthqualizer Foundation hosted an engaging side event titled "From Suspension and Exclusion to Recovery and Re-Entry: Implementing the Next Stage of No Deforestation, Peat, and Exploitation (NDPE) Policy" during RSPO RT2024 in Bangkok, Thailand.

With around 30 participants—including growers, buyers, and civil society organizations—the event fostered dynamic discussions on vital topics. Participants explored critical elements for re-entry and recovery, strategies to increase corporate engagement, and the challenges that hinder NDPE policy adoption.

At the seminar, Earthqualizer, represented by Priscillia Moulin and Andrew Ng, shared the background and evolution of the NDPE Policy, highlighting its significance in addressing forest and peatland loss. They also presented Earthqualizer’s re-entry and recovery actions as part of NDPE Policy compliance, underscoring the importance of these steps to address past challenges. Earthqualizer further introduced the criteria and impact areas of its landscape and recovery program.

Additionally, Rauf Prasodjo, Senior Manager for Sustainable Sourcing at Unilever, contributed valuable insights on due diligence, smallholder management, and grievance processes, adding depth to the discussions.

The discussion with participants was highly interactive, with attendees expressing keen interest in Earthqualizer’s recovery plan and inquiring about the technical implementation of the recovery scheme.
