On July 9, 2024, the Earthqualizer Foundation hosted a pivotal kickoff meeting in Medan, North Sumatra, with Unilever’s supplier mills, marking the beginning of a significant cooperation agreement (MoU) focused on enhancing traceability and identifying potential independent smallholders around these mills. This collaboration emphasizes our shared commitment to advancing sustainability and transparency within the palm oil supply chain.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Unilever’s key supplier mills in Sumatra, including PT Karyabadi Sama Sejati, PT Biyu Iyas Malela, PT Harkat Sejahtera, PT Multi Agrindo Sumatera, and PT Herfinta Farm & Plantation. This inaugural session laid the groundwork for a strategic work plan that will guide the development and implementation of a comprehensive traceability system, identify independent smallholders, and promote sustainable practices across the supply chain.
During the meeting, a thorough work plan was presented, detailing the scope, objectives, timelines, and methodologies required to ensure the successful implementation of the traceability system. This system is crucial not only for voluntary initiatives but also to meet regulatory requirements, supporting the sustainable production of palm oil and minimizing the risks of environmental degradation.
The Earthqualizer Foundation is confident that this collaboration will yield substantial positive outcomes, enhancing sustainable trade practices and contributing to environmental preservation. We are excited to continue this partnership and make meaningful progress toward establishing a transparent and responsible palm oil supply chain.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all participants for their dedication to this important initiative and look forward to the positive impacts we will achieve together.
